“Wir sind APEX” (a cooperation my company click-click IT Solutions is part of) adds its share to the Community and provides some informational Events and some Workshops in the near future.

The widely most interesting Event will be held on October 14 2011 in Vienna. Topic and Title of this Event is “Oracle APEX and the Cloud“. Next to myself there will be Patrick Wolf, Christian Neumüller and Carsten Czarski talking about Oracle APEX and how it can be used within public or private clouds (e.g. provide APEX hosting within your company for your colleagues).

There will be also a guest speaker from a big company presenting about how APEX is currently used in his company.

So if you are somewhere in or around Austria and you do understand german (as this event will be held in german language) you should definitely come. Bookings required !

What can I say? It was a really good day with lots of interesting speeches and a very interested audience of 250 people !

Seminar 1: 03.03.2011 APEX Einstieg

Der richtige Einstieg für alle Interessierten, hier bekommen sie einen ganzen Tag lang alles wissenswerte rund um Oracle Application Express vermittelt und “begreifen” Applikationsentwicklung mit gezielten Hands-On Übungen.

Seminar 2: 04.03.2011 APEX 4.0 new Features

Wer schon Ahnung von Oracle APEX hat, aber die neuen Features der Release 4.0 noch nicht einsetzt, der ist mit diesem Tag richtig beraten.

An diesem Tag dreht sich alles um Interaktivität mit Dynamic Actions, Plugins und den neuen Tabular Form Features.
Aber auch die anderen neuen Features kommen nicht zu kurz:

• neue Charts und Maps
• interaktive Reports
• Team Development
• REST Webservices
• uvm.

Lassen sie sich diese einmalige Gelegenheit nicht entgehen und buchen noch heute einen der wenigen noch verfügbaren Plätze direkt auf der AOUG Seminar-Seite.

Here are my 10 features:

1. Plugins for Tabular Forms. Whats possible now for Item Types should also be possible for report column types.
2. Better Translation support. Translations nowadays are hard work and not understandable for customers. Why do they have to deal with XLIFF files having no information where a text-string is displayed?
3. Cascading LOV’s in TabForms
4. Hotkeys for Buttons. To get better keyboard support and more RIA (Rich Internet Application) Feeling those shortcuts for Buttons or Menues are a must.
5. Syntax Highlighting in APEX Builder. Helps everyone to understand code better.
6. Tight Integration of Jasper Reports. Not everyone can afford BI-Publisher and some say Jasper is better anyways…
7. Full control over templates. Define templates for all item types and how APEX puts those items in your region. This would help to get rid of tables (if you want this).
8. More Row functions in TabForms. The new AddRow-functionality is fine, but what if you want to add the new row on top of your TabForm? A copy-row function would be fine, too.
9. Application Diff. A Side by Side difference utility would be awesome!
10. Rights/Privileges for Application Builder. This may sound odd, but some settings in an application (e.g. authentication scheme) should only be changeable for higher privileged developers. This would be a nice feature for bigger companies where “real” developers and power users develop together an application.

What do you want to see in a future APEX Version?

Biggest thing in there is a bugfix regarding Hotkeys for Buttons. Under certain circumstances the button was triggered twice, which shouldn’t happen anymore.

The last months were very eventful, in may i founded click-click IT Solutions and had a very good start with it. But selling projects on the one side and coding them on the other side takes a lot of time :-)

Conferences, Workshops and international customers will push me up to frequent flyer status in no time (which hopefully will buy me some business-class upgrades…).

In the little time between all these activities i searched for a new and bigger office, since i’m planning on taking new partners on board this year. What i found is a cool old (small) penthouse apartment with terrace and a great view which should be ready renovated and turned into an office in a couple of weeks, pictures will follow.

Future of ApexLib Framework

Today (September 29, 2010) i uploaded ApexLib Framwork 2.1.3, which contains some smaller bugfixes, but no new features.

This will be the last version running on all APEX Versions out there (3.x and 4.0), the following major release of ApexLib Framework will target special needs in APEX 4.0.

Be prepared to get better support for Tabular Forms in APEX 4.0 and some nice interactive stuff.

This upcoming release won’t work with APEX 3.x anymore, just APEX 4.0 will be supported. I try to put a big warning sign on the download side, so that you don’t install the a wrong Version in your “old” APEX environment.

Now is still time to request special features. What do you want to see in the next release of ApexLib Framework? Anything in APEX 4.0 that really bugs you and want to be fixed by ApexLib?

Conferences, Events, Workshops, ….

Just a couple of months ago i founded my company click-click IT Solutions, which is an old dream come true.

Besides building up my company, earning money and growing my network there are some interesting conferences in good old Europe i’m going to attend as speaker:

1. APEX Total – DOAG SIG Conference on October 7 in Berlin and October 8 in München/Munich
2. APEXPosed 2010 at October 27-28 in Brussels
3. DOAG Conference 2010 at November 16-18 in Nürnberg/Nuremberg

These conferences and our APEX 4.0 Workshop in Vienna September 13-18 together are a lot for my first year :-)

Hope to meet many interesting people at these events, maybe just drop a note or a comment if you want to go for a glass of milk/coke/beer/cocktail/whatever.

Ok, ok, here are some Details: while it had lots and lots of fresh snow and temperatures below zero at home in Vienna, i did some relaxing in 30° (Celsius) sunny wheather on a marvelous beach with a real interesting coral reef right next to it.
No need for scuba diving there, just by simply snorkeling i’ve seen so many different fish it was astounding.

Christmas holidays were very peaceful and quite, i spent most time with my family, friends and my girlfriend. In between i squeezed in some time playing around with Apex 4.0 ;-)

Besides all other fantastic new things i concentrated most on the plugin concept of APEX 4.0, which is really good already, but not complete yet (e.g. defining of plugin-specific CSS files is missing).

Patrick Wolf, who created ApexLib (and other OpenSource Projects), joined the Oracle Development Team a couple months ago and puts his efforts now directly into APEX Development, especially the upcoming Release 4.0 .

But now you all can relax, there is new power for the ApexLib Development ;-)

I’m working on the brand new release 2.0 of ApexLib, its just a matter of days when i can put it online for download.
